Francisco Goya: The Third of May 1808 LDF84
This lecture will explore perhaps the most powerful and moving political painting of the Western tradition: The Third of May 1808. Goya sought to commemorate Spanish resistance to Napoleons armies during the occupation of 1808 in the Peninsular War. In it, he musters a new kind of artistic expression, and a monumental revolutionary statement that continues to reverberate today.
