This informal field class will use the backdrop of the Alfredo Field Dog Park. It is a great place to look at all types of scenarios where we can successfully grow native gardens that will attract beneficial pollinators. Various conditions of soil will be discussed including pH variations and what type of pH provides optimal growth conditions for plants. We will also discuss dry and wet soil environments and what plants will grow well under these various soil conditions. Plants that grow well in sun, partial shade and shade will be presented. Invasive plants will be identified at the site, with explanations of why it is important to remove them from your garden. Beneficial and invasive insects will also be discussed. We will also look at areas that are works in progress and discuss ideas of how plant know-how can be applied to your individual gardens.
