Getting your powerboat or sailboat ship-shape for another summer on the water? Make sure you and your family are thinking about safety first. Over four sessions, the official "Boat America Course" reviews boating laws, the U.S. Aids to Navigation system, bells and buoys, and right-of-way rules. We'll cover emergencies, accidents and rescues, hazards, emergency radio calls, engine failures, boat storage, water sports, and more. Connecticut and New Jersey require a boating safety course for new boat owners and license applicants, and many insurance companies offer discounts to Tri-state boaters who complete the course. In addition, New York State’s “Brianna’s Law” requires all boat operators born after January 1, 1983, to obtain a boating safety certificate by completing an eight-hour safe boating course.
