    Join us for a one-evening calligraphy workshop where you'll learn the basics of beautiful handwriting and create stunning place cards and personalized gift tags for your upcoming gatherings. Using traditional calligraphy techniques, you'll practice lettering styles and flourishes to add a personal touch to your table setting and holiday gifts. Take home your handmade creations and your new skill, and impress your friends and family just in time for the holiday season! No calligraphy experience is necessary.

    See Lyndhurst mansion transformed into an extravagant wonderland of holiday splendor. Described as one of the “Ten Best Historic Holiday Tours” by USA Today, Lyndhurst goes all-out during the holiday season, filling the mansion with elaborate tableaus of décor, which change every year. Dozens of Christmas trees are expertly decorated and designed to complement the elegant period furnishings within the rooms of the house. During this month only, curators bring out rarely-seen items that belonged to Lyndhurst’s former owners. This is a once-a-year opportunity to see many of the glittering possessions that are usually tucked away in the archives. This one-hour tour visits the two main floors of the mansion.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    • The precise meeting location will be provided to registered students a few days before the event.
    • Students must make their own arrangements to get to the meeting place.
    • Please be advised that this tour requires long periods of standing and flights of stairs.
    • Please arrive 15 minutes before the entry time on your ticket. If you are late, we will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee it.

    This 110-year-old train terminal welcomes hundreds of thousands people daily. But how many stop to take in this world-class landmark? This 2-hour walking tour will give you reason to stop and admire this magnificent Beaux Arts building like never before.

    This exploration of the Grand Central Terminal will include these, and more:

    • A brief history of the Vanderbilt family behind the NY Central Railroad and the two Grand Centrals that came before the 1913 Terminal.
    • A quick primer on what “Beaux Arts” architecture is and how to identify it.
    • Vintage photos of the terminal’s construction, sculptures, and inaccessible areas.
    • The incredible story of how the Terminal escaped the wrecking ball.
    • The colossal mistake of the Terminal’s Grand Concourse ceiling.
    • A trip to the Terminal’s hidden, landmarked cocktail bar that was once a private office.
    • A peek into the window catwalks.
    • An opportunity to tell secrets across the elliptical Guastavino “Whispering Gallery.”

    After the tour, get some holiday shopping done at the annual Grand Central Holiday Market!

    Celebrate the season with this festive gel printing workshop. Using a gel plate and a variety of textures, like lace, leaves, and custom stencils, you’ll create layered, one-of-a-kind prints. You will get the chance to print on stationery to create beautiful handmade cards and envelopes, perfect for holiday gift-giving. All card-making supplies provided, just bring your creativity and any additional textures you’d like to use.

    A holiday gingerbread cake is part dessert, part centerpiece, and all fun. In this hands-on class, you will learn how to create the most delicious ginger molasses cake with the perfect winter decorations. You will learn how to sugar-flock cranberries and rosemary to top your perfectly cream cheese-glazed masterpiece. Students will go home with the recipes to recreate this delicious cake, as well as a slice. Please bring a container to transport it.
