This tour will meet at Lincoln Center, where we will explore its vast transformation in the early 1960s from a former residential area to one of the world’s most important performing arts centers. Then we will focus on two nearby major monuments to the American Civil Rights Movement. After walking to the Riverside South development, we will discuss its complicated transformation from former NY Central freight railroad yards to a large group of apartment buildings plus an extension of Riverside Park. And we will see some wonderful parts of vintage NYC, including a horse trough, a rare Dutch-style church, and a 19th-century firehouse. Finally, we will learn more about two great Upper West Side museums: the American Museum of Natural History and the New-York Historical Society.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Transportation to meeting spot is not provided. Students must make their own arrangements.
- Precise meeting location will be provided a few days before the event.
- Rain or shine.

This walking-based wellness program is designed to instill well-being and strength through nature and fitness. As the name implies, FitWalk's foundation is walking, briskly at times and purposeful. You will use light to medium hand-held weights and focus on functional and strength training intervals to build muscle, better bones, and balance. Each class is different, but all involve hitting all the major muscle groups in a single session. FitWalk classes naturally encourage mindfulness, camaraderie, and positive imaging to support mental and emotional health.
This class meets outdoors and will be canceled in the event of rain (sometimes at the last minute). Make-up dates will be added on as necessary, but we are unable to offer refunds or credit if you are not able to attend a scheduled make-up. Please take this into consideration before registering.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Bring 2 lb. or 3 lb. handheld dumbbells, depending on your fitness level.
- Athletic shoes are required. Dress in layers.

Tai Chi-Qigong is a healing exercise for our body, opening blocked energy channels through proper posture, breath work, and advanced concentration within graceful movement. Through this practice the condition of cells, muscles, bones, and joints are strengthened and revitalized, improving the function of internal organs and intestines.
Tai Chi (TaeGeuk) is the principle of the cosmic energy cycle. When cosmic energy is created and eventually reaches its peak, instead of disappearing, the energy converts into a different type of energy, thereby continuing its lifecycle.
Qigong is the understanding and application of the Tai Chi principle into our lives. We can embrace the cosmic energy cycle and transform ourselves, leading a less self-centered and more altruistic, devoted life.

When Andrew Carnegie purchased a swath of property on Fifth Avenue at 90th Street, it was considered the boonies – too far uptown from the acceptable social center. But, of course, where Carnegie goes, others follow. On this tour, we’ll see Carnegie’s house – now the Cooper Hewitt Museum, as well as other turn-of-the-century mansions built by new-money industrialists of the early 20th century, with a stop at the Warburg Mansion, now the Jewish Museum, designed by the “lacy architect,” CPH Gilbert.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Walk covers approximately 1 mile, flat
- Transportation to meeting spot is not provided. Students must make their own arrangements.
- Tour starts on Fifth Avenue near 86th Street. Precise meeting location will be provided a few days before the event.

Join us on a special holiday tour of the Bush-Holley House in Greenwich, CT. This guided tour introduces visitors to two distinct time periods in the history of both the house and the town: the New Nation era (1790-1825), when the house was home to the wealthy mercantile Bush family and the individuals they enslaved; and the Art Colony era (1890-1920), when the Holley family ran it as a boarding house and home to Connecticut’s first art colony. With the house decorated for the holidays, visitors will enjoy a festive walk through the Christmas traditions of the Bush and Holley families. Participants will learn about early American holiday celebrations among the Bush family and their Greenwich neighbors and will enjoy the stories of Christmastime with the Holley family and their artist friends in the era of the Cos Cob Art Colony.
PLEASE NOTE:
- This tour involves steep stairs.
- Although not included in the tour, participants can enjoy the Greenwich Historical Society Museum and its exhibitions at no additional cost.
- Transportation to meeting spot is not provided. Students must make their own arrangements.
- Precise meeting location will be provided a few days before the event.
