Calligraphy can be a meditation as well as an art form if you slow down and enjoy the beautiful process stroke by stroke. Students will learn the fundamentals of calligraphy by working with three different calligraphy tools. First, we work with a broad edge marker and learn the Italic alphabet, a versatile 15th-century calligraphy style. Then, we'll use a pointed pen and ink and learn a copperplate alphabet, a beautiful, elegant 18th-century script style. Finally, we will learn modern calligraphy techniques and flourishes. Beginner students will progress from learning the basic letter forms to writing sentences. This class is for both beginners and more experienced students who want to fine-tune their skills.

Explore the ancient technique of broom-making. Fiber artist and educator Poliana Danila will guide you through this craft of working with natural materials to create a useful and beautiful hand broom. Using natural and black-dyed sorghum, you'll make a 16-inch broom that can be used as a sweeper and/or displayed as an art piece on your wall or mantle. 

Learn the basics of drawing and shading in this practical class for all levels. In this class, you’ll learn how to draw accurately with correct angles and proportions. You’ll also learn how to create smooth shading to give a 3D feeling to your drawings. Each week, you'll learn 1-3 clear new skills and practice them on simple subjects for optimized learning. Perfect for beginners or more advanced students looking to improve their drawing skills.

Interested in making your own jewelry? This three-class series will focus on the basics, giving you a solid foundation in stringing techniques, wire wrapping, and simple knotting. You'll be on your way to creating unique and interesting jewelry.

Beginners, experienced or lapsed knitters are welcome.  Learn to knit from the first stitch, master new stitches like lace and cables, or receive help with a project. Beginner patterns will be available, such as fingerless gloves, cowls and a toy stuffed rabbit.  If you are beyond beginner, please bring your supplies and a pattern on which you will work and receive help in class.

This is a step-by-step course on creating spring flower portraits on fine paper. Using miniature brushes and luminous, transparent color, we will achieve realistic, detailed, and treasured artworks. A delicate craft thousands of years old, the “pysanka” is a Ukrainian egg decorated with traditional folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word ‘pysanka’ comes from the verb ‘pysaty,’ meaning “to write” because the intricate designs are not painted, but rather written on the eggshell with melted beeswax. Every symbol and color applied has its own specific meaning. It is believed that some pysanky could even protect households by trapping evil spirits deep within spiral motifs. Other geometric designs were stylized representations of wishes: pine needles for eternal youth, the sun for long life, antlered deer for prosperity, poppies for beauty, birds for fertility, and wolves’ teeth zig-zags for loyalty and wisdom. Why not try your hand at making a pysanka? Join us at the table and write your own story on your own egg.

Immerse yourself in the enchanting and meditative art of Suminagashi, the traditional Japanese technique of paper marbling. In this class, you will learn to surrender control and delight in the process as colors dance on water and imprint onto paper, resulting in beautiful, unpredictable designs. You will produce custom-designed and uniquely marbled papers that reflect the beauty and spontaneity of this ancient art form and are suitable for stationery, decorative purposes, or collage materials.

This course delves deeper into the world of digital photography. Take your photos to the next level through classroom lectures, demonstrations, and instructor-led photo shoots. Topics covered include advanced exposure control, histogram, focus point selection, custom white balance, shooting in RAW, compelling composition techniques, storytelling, dynamic natural lighting, and light modifiers. Students should have taken Introduction to Digital Photography or have equivalent knowledge.

This course provides beginners with a comprehensive start to the world of digital photography through classroom lectures, demonstrations, and instructor-led photo shoots. See what your camera is capable of! Topics include camera operation, exposure controls, shutter, aperture, ISO, white balance, depth of field, composition, portraiture and landscape photography.

This open studio session is for artists of all levels who wish to practice figure drawing with a live, fully clothed model. The instructor will guide the session by setting poses and offering feedback, but students are encouraged to work independently at their own pace. Participants can engage in discussion and critique for a broader perspective on different approaches to figure drawing. Artists of all backgrounds and approaches, from traditional to contemporary, are invited to join.

Bring your inner wisdom into the material world by creating a vision board collage. Explore the expressive techniques of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters like Cézanne and Van Gogh in this dynamic and engaging drawing class. Using charcoal and pencil, artists of all levels—whether beginner or experienced—will develop and refine their fundamental drawing skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Inspired by the Japanese method of metal forge modeling, this class will adapt similar techniques to transform polymer clay into a mokume gane design. Students will learn the step-by-step approach and then create jewelry pieces and/or a trinket bowl out of the clay designs. Finished pieces will be baked and sealed before class ends.
