Creative Arts   

Beginners, experienced or lapsed knitters are welcome.  Learn to knit from the first stitch, master new stitches like lace and cables, or receive help with a project. Beginner patterns will be available, such as fingerless gloves, cowls and a toy stuffed rabbit.  If you are beyond beginner, please bring your supplies and a pattern on which you will work and receive help in class.

Experienced or lapsed knitters are welcome, as well as those who have completed a beginner class. Bring a project you'd like to start or one that's been sitting in the closet for years, as well as pesky problems and... let's knit! No group projects, no plan, just enjoy the simple act of knitting.

Late fall is the perfect time to capture the vibrant vegetable gardens of New York in colored pencil. The cooler temperatures and shorter days produce a colorful mix of beets, carrots, peas, and radishes. Green beans and garlic, along with herbs like parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme, all sing in harmony and serve as the perfect subjects for pristine vegetable portraits on fine paper, where students will learn techniques in drawing, blending, and burnishing. Artists of all skill levels will feel at home in our welcoming setting.

Beads made of paper? Yes, definitely yes! Transform recycled flyers, magazine pages, and hand-painted papers into fun and fashionable jewelry. Explore the various techniques for rolling paper into different shapes and sizes, seal them for durability and shine, and create a unique necklace or bracelet all your own. This class is suitable for beginners and those with experience.

Are you a candle lover? Did you ever want to learn how to make your own candles? Then this class is for you! Each participant will create two container candles (approximately 4 oz each) - with your choice of vessel, fragrance, and color. Learn about the different types of candle container waxes, how to wick your candles, and important candle safety. Be prepared to be creative and have fun. No experience necessary.

While all artistic levels are welcome, this course will assume some familiarity with watercolor basics such as wet-on-wet, dry brush techniques, color mixing, and brushwork, as these will not be the primary focus of instruction. From wardrobe pieces or embellishments to housewares or jewelry, you can make beautiful gifts for yourself or others. This two-week crochet class teaches beginners the basic stitches needed to create crochet fabric. No experience is required.

Using your own photograph or imagination as the basis for your design, you'll learn how to create natural scenes using an array of found and textured materials—maps, newspapers, old books, magazines, and specialty papers. The instructor will teach you techniques for selecting and color-matching scraps to create a cohesive image, and explore how layering, composition, and texture can bring your paper landscape to life. No prior experience needed—just a sense of curiosity and a love of color! All materials are provided, and students may also bring personal items to incorporate into their projects.

Join us in learning to make a beautiful keepsake with UV resin. Students will use resin to embed different items of their choosing into bezels and molds to make either one necklace, one pair of earrings, or one keychain. No prior experience necessary.

Join the Outdoors Contained to learn how to embellish a cut green wreath. They will provide the wreath as well as a variety of ribbons, fruits, feathers, berries, and natural elements and will teach you to curate and assemble your own holiday wreath which you will take home to celebrate the season as well as the holidays.

Weave a tote basket that is 12 x 5 x 12 in. with Shaker tape handles and some choices of color for the weavers and tape. You'll be able to use this for storage and for all kinds of fall adventures. This class is appropriate for beginners and experienced weavers alike.

For decorating, you'll choose from a wide array of designs and colors, then finish your pieces by painting the edges in gold or silver for a polished, timeless look. No prior experience is needed. Just come ready to have fun and get creative. We primarily use paper napkins as decoupage patterns, but feel free to bring your own favorites, including wrapping paper, tissue paper, or magazine cutouts if you’d like to personalize your project.

Design the dress of your dreams—in miniature! In this class, you'll combine embroidery stitches with colorful or textured fabrics to create elegant, three-dimensional dress forms. These creations can stand on their own as a decorative piece, and the instructor will also discuss how to use them to embellish a decorative box or tin. A perfect class for stitchers who love detail, fashion, and a touch of flair. All skill levels, including beginners, are welcome.

Explore the expressive techniques of charcoal drawing and create a strong foundation for any painting medium through learning the basic and in-depth fundamentals of drawing, like composition, values, volume, and more. Whether beginner or experienced, you will develop and refine your drawing skills in a fun and supportive environment.

In late fall, as the air turns crisp, we will fill journals with the spare and stunning offerings of native tree twigs and their terminal buds, and berries. American beech, tulip poplar, hickory, and maple show a burst of life in the cool months. As if preparing for the holidays, our native trees also give us a show of bright red berries from American holly, mulberry, and red maple. We will learn the art and science of native trees and berries using mark-making in ink and transparent watercolor, creating keepsake journals that last forever. Artists of all skill levels will feel at home in our welcoming setting.

Take your drawing skills to the next level with a focused exploration of portrait drawing. We’ll begin with a review of core techniques, making it easy for returning students to refresh their skills and for new students with experience to get up to speed. You’ll learn a step-by-step approach to drawing portraits, starting with accurate line work and progressing to shading for depth and realism. By the end of the class, you’ll have completed a finished portrait and deepened your understanding of drawing from observation.

Note: This class is best for students who have either taken a previous drawing class with Tim or have some prior drawing experience.

They are fun, versatile, and require only basic stitches to provide a wealth of color options and uses for the home and personal adornment. From earrings to slippers, tote bags to cushions, you can do it with a granny! This class will teach you the basic stitches you need to make a granny square and begin or continue your crochet journey.

Learn to "paint" with wool as you decorate a wool ball to create a unique ornament. Choose from provided designs or sketch your own, then finish it off with a thread for hanging. A cozy, creative addition to your home decor.
