In this workshop, students will explore how to manage and learn from their beautiful and vast array of emotions. Emotions serve as an alert system and are defined as “energy in motion.” We experience a nuanced range and variety of them every day. When we encounter situations in which we don’t understand our own reactions, are confused about why we have uncomfortable and unexpected physical sensations, and why one emotional state can shift to another within seconds, we need to understand them more.

In this class, students will learn how bodily sensations play a fundamental role in shaping perceptions, emotions, and behaviors. For example, how do you feel stress? As a racing heart, sweating, or tight shoulders? Once you have an awareness of the physical manifestations of emotions, you can work to down-regulate your reactions and calm down your nervous system. Through self-awareness exercises, Aviva will guide you in connecting with all your senses, including physical sensations and intuitive insights that act as a guidance system, so you can feel empowered to approach life with more clarity and understanding. Students will also receive take-home materials for future review.

Breathwork is an active meditation technique with a two-part inhale and single exhale done consistently for 30 minutes, followed by relaxation and a return to normal breathing.  The technique brings us into a deeper state of consciousness and clears "stuck energy" quite rapidly and safely. Results often include more mental clarity and less anxiety; an easier time connecting with family and friends; the experience of more joy, peace, and spiritual connection; and a boost of intuition and creativity.

Unwind your day with a mindful meditative approach to making art. Neurographica was developed as an art therapy practice to help individuals process emotions and reduce stress. This class will use this technique to ease stress while making a beautiful abstract work of art. Students begin with random, spontaneous lines and incorporate circles into their design, later rounding off intersections and adding color with a choice of media. Students of all artistic levels are welcome.

Each session will begin with a welcoming circle fostering openness and connection and will provide tools to manage stress, embrace growth, and deepen self-awareness. We will also delve into what mindfulness is and its benefits for daily life and work. Throughout the course, we will explore mindfulness through eleven “attitudes”: curiosity, kindness, gratitude and generosity, acceptance, non-judgment, non-striving, letting go and letting be, patience, humor, trust, and a beginner’s mind. By the end of the series, you will have gained practical mindfulness tools and a stronger connection to yourself and others. If not now, when? Join us and take the next step on your mindfulness journey.

    Session Structure:

    • 10-Minute Theme Introduction: Explore one or two attitudes and their practical relevance.
    • 15-Minute Guided Meditation: Calming and energizing practices tailored to the session’s theme.
    • 30-Minute Sharing & Exploration: Reflect on the meditation and discuss applying mindfulness in daily life.
    • 5-Minute Wrap-Up: Takeaways and a focus for the week ahead.
